What is the meaning of LIFE ?

I wish i had a simple;one word answer for this question. But unfortunately, the question has managed to puzzle many great minds throughout history, bringing out new philosophical ideologies and pushing mankind to a new level of moral wisdom. This article is my opinion, kinda like my answer to this mind boggling question.

Science defines life a complex interaction of mass and energy.Simply,it is wonderful how the very fundamental laws can interact to bring out something wonderful and artistic over time.Intelligent life, which can admire the cause of it's own existence is sort of like 'the universe's way of experiencing itself'.But after all this humbleness that astronomy teaches us, I guess for us apes ,we are the centres of our little universes.                                             {{Actually you can't  blame that thought because science says so.The cosmic expansion theory gives a hyper dimensional view of the universe.Like the surface of an expanding balloon,each point accelerates away from each other and therefore each and every point in its surface can be said as the centre of that curved surface.Actually you are the centre of the universe ☺}}

Albert Camus's philosophical essay "The Myth Of Sisyphus" explores the feeling of barrenness, the feeling that life is meaningless,a feeling of hopelessness.Sisyphus was an evil king in ancient Greece.According to the myths, he was condemned to death by the gods to death.Even as Sisyphus escapes by sheer treachery,he is mortified by the gods to the unrealisable  task of rolling a huge boulder over the top of a hill. The moment he reaches the top,he watches as it trembles back to the bottom. He is cursed to repeat this cycle for eternity.Despite of this barren task,Sisyphus's soldiers on with the task.So the word 'Sisyphean' epitomizes any infinite and burdensome action that yields futile results.Camus brilliantly connects Sisyphus to the manly feeling of absurdity raised when trying to seek answer to the 'ideal'& being confronted by chaos & unpleasantness. Camus sees three philosophical responses emerging to this state of hopelessness. The first one is reposing faith in god.Second is suicide & the third one is the act of defiance in continuing to live ,despite understanding the futility of existence.Camus sees the faith in god as an illusion &  suicide as an escape without answers.Camus prefers the third option.A life of subjugation,to the miseries of circumstances with an attitude of acceptance.Hereby embracing hopelessness-one is aware of the limitations of life .By his rebellion Sisyphus is free-from the anxieties of life & chooses a life that is without appeal. At this stage one is indifferent to the future & cherishes  the present to the fullest even if it is deplorable. Continuing a life in misery with a profound understanding of it is more momentous than suicide, which serves no purpose. Here, Sisyphus is fully aware of the absurd & the master of his fate.

After all life must be enjoyed to the fullest , with no regrets. We are mortals but our ideas and experiences are immortalized in time.As Bob Marley says "Live the life you love & love the life you live".Live a life of love.Live a life for the people you love & the people who loves you.Love is the mother of all emotions.Feelings like anger,joy,jealousy..all are the bi products of love.As Osho says

“If you love a flower, don’t pick it up.

Because if you pick it up it dies and it ceases to be what you love.
So if you love a flower, let it be.
Love is not about possession.
Love is about appreciation.”

Live a life driven by passion. As Joseph Wirthlin says '' You Can Find Peace Amidst The Storm That Threatens You''.
Live a life with freedom.Break free of the chains that the society binds you in the name of expectations. You are the soul administrator of your life.Live it the way you want.A long Journey exploring cultures through unseen roads, loning through space and time may give you a perspective of life. As in Avicii's "The Nights", "live a life you will remember''.The meaning of your life is what you defines it to be.But don't be late' if so some other's ideas may replace yours.

Why we are so certain about uncertainity principle?????

The Heisenberg's uncertainty principle shows us a glimpse of how ignorant we are about the quantum world and  hence the cosmos itself. It's a wonderful reminder of how humble we are in this vast emptiness  filled with great wisdom and wonder.
Basically, the uncertainty principle is an in-equation which contains the variables as uncertainty in position and mass & velocity  (that is momentum) of the particle. That is \sigma _{x}\sigma _{p}\geq {\frac {\hbar }{2}}~~(ħ is the reduced Planck constant, h / 2π).This states that the position and velocity of any particle cannot be simultaneously and precisely determined.
As the value of  the certainty of position increases the uncertainty of momentum increases and vice versa.

This wonderful relation that's been the foundation of quantum mechanics can be experimentally verified right at your home. That's the humbleness of science.Watch the below video to get your head around this.

How astronomers measure interstellar distances ???

The first method for measuring distance to a star is using a parallax , i.e triangulation. It's a method in which the change in position of a celestial body caused by the motion of the earth with respect to an observer on earth along with a little trigonometry  is used to determine the distance .

Another method is to use standard candles .A standard candle is a class of astrophysical objects, such as supernovae or variable stars, which have known luminosity due to some characteristic quality possessed by the entire class of objects. Thus comparing the standard candles with other astronomical objects;we are able measure huge distances. To find out more on how spectrum of stars tell us about them click here.

Did man evolve from monkeys?????. !

Stephen Hawking had said that '' The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance,It is the illusion of knowledge''. What he meant is pretty clear. We may perceive that we are sure about something but you may not be.
Such illusions of knowledge is all over the society .This phenomenal illusion will drive us deep into the horrid black holes of ignorance. Many such illusions can be seen in cultures across the globe. Some of them are religious, but some of them are even scientific.
Religion tells that man was created by god. While many others  believe that man evolved from monkeys. But science tells that man(Homo sapiens) and monkeys evolved separately; but from a common ancestor. It is even more funnier that many of us still believes that each race is a different species. There is no biological basis to the notion of human races. All human are a single species. The very definition of a species tells us that a species is a group of individuals capable of interbreeding. There is no better evidence to prove that humans are one race .Still our genetic footprints can be traced back to Africa.
Several other scientific myths can be still found.Let us question them until there is no more questions to ask..............................................................................???????????????????????.

SCIENCE- The poetry of Reality.

The word 'science' came from the Latin word 'scientia' meaning knowledge. Science is a human made concept to prevent us from fooling ourselves. The ultimate aim of science is not to find a theory which explains everything (i think there is the need of an impossible aim to motivate a large community)but rather a collection of theories ; models .Basically scientific method includes TO QUESTION EVERYTHING and I think that's what caused scientific method to rise and grow within a small period of time.
But unfortunately we cannot find the ultimate truths with scientific method. We  humans are biological organisms and therefore we have limitations in finding the reality. Our reality is limited into the data we get from our sense organs. You may argue that we have advanced machines capable of giving a higher rate of detection than our own sense organs. But don't forget that your reality is ultimately bound to your brain .So science only enables us for a better understanding of our reality itself. Reality is different for different beings. For example a cat may be seeing the same tree you saw with different colour, shape etc .
A far complex organism (if it exists) will have a different reality .

But SCIENCE IS GREAT. IT IS BEYOND A FORM OF STUDY.IT'S A CULTURE ,IT'S A WAY FOR ALL TO THINK.I JUST POINTED THE FACT THAT SCIENCE HAS TO EVOLVE INTO SOME THING NOT BOUND BY SUBJECTIVE REALITY .

'This Place ' had made a great video on the working of science.

CIRCLE'S AREA

Circle is one the most fascinating shapes in mathematics. It is defined as 'a collection of points equidistant from a fixed point' in Euclidean geometry. It has many wonderful properties .For example it is considered as the largest known polygon [while considering each point of it as a side] and hence it's interior angle sum is infinite.

We must appreciate the Greeks for their creativity of comparing the area of a triangle with the area of a circle.Let me explain this;
We know that triangles are the basic shape in geometry. So the Greeks used the shape for finding the area of a circle .
The method they used are as follow,

  • For this, we can imagine circle as a collection of triangles; whose one vertex intersects with all others vertices's at the the centre of the circle.
  • now, we can imagine that the two sides formed from the vertexes of the formed triangles coincides .
  • We know that,
Area of a triangle = 1/2 base * height

In this case the height is equal to the radius of the circle and the sum of  lengths of bases is equal to the circumference of the circle .From this,
Sum of bases of the triangles = Circumference of circle =2
π
r

Height of the triangle = Radius of the circle = rArea of a triangle= 1/2 base * height
So,

Area of the circle = Sum of areas of all triangles = 1/2 sum of all the bases  * height
=1/2 * circumference * radius
=1/2*2
πr*r=
π
r
2

It's amazing to know how creative the Greeks were .........WONDERFUL...

The below video finds the area of a circle using the area of a rectangle ..

EARTH REVOLVES AROUND THE SUN. WHY ?

Why do earth revolve around the sun?
Earth and many other celestial bodies revolves around the sun ,but have you thought WHY???
It can be said that it is the reaction of the earth against sun's gravitational force preventing it from falling into the massive sun.It can be said as the earth's method to resist the intense gravitational force of the sun  by increasing  it's velocity and there by increasing the centrifugal force acting and keeping it in an equilibrium.

It can be explained with the help of General relativity.Sun is a massive body and so it bends the space time.Earth is like a ball falling into a funnel , the funnel here is bended space-time.Like the ball, earth falls down the funnel(bended space-time) eventually causing this revolutionary motion.

You don't want to fear that the earth will fall into the sun .Before the sun will already swallow the earth because of it's transition into a red giant.

Gravitational waves -The heart beat of the universe

Gravitational waves..

Gravitational waves are waves travelling through the space time, which was predicted by Albert Einstein in his Theories of relativity. The most simply, it can be defined as the ripples in space time due to movements of massive celestial bodies such as  Binary Pulsar system or black holes revolving around each other.

The Newtonian model of the universe  does not predict waves through space time ,as the model believes in an absolute system.
But the relativity do.It has been found possible with mathematical formulations, but never has been found experimentally .Any way researches are going on with experiments to detect these waves with the help of complex machines like the one at LIGO.

oh, man they've found it.!!!!!

The flat earth.

Is earth really flat?
The flat earth theory is the most interesting example that how common sense can mislead mankind. But this theory could be proved wrong just by seeing things with the eyes of science even with out using high tech machines.

Good observation is all you need to find the truth. Some simple ways are listed below.

  • Phases of moon

When we observes the different phases of moon we will be able to see the shadow of earth on it.If you observe it carefully you can see that the shadow is curved. This is the first  proof that the earth is round.

  • The horizon
If you ever goes to a beach observe the horizon from the beach ,you will see that the horizon looks curved .This is the second proof.
  • The travel
If you travel from any part of the earth in a straight path you will reach the same spot from were you have started your journey.

  • The picture from space

The images of earth taken from outer space are the latest evidence that the earth is round.

Beginning and end of time.

History of time
Time can be defined as 'the duration of an action' in classic physics & as a 'part of space-time in modern physics'.Time leaves some unanswered questions to us.For example ,

Was there a beginning of time?
Could time run backwards?
Did time is just a property of energetic particles ?
Can we travel through time?

The big bang theory suggests that time beginned 'after' it.
(there is a possible arise of question on the word AFTER, as its a word for representing time. But AFTER/BEFORE are words used for comparing an event with actual time).

Some scientists and also theories like 'Quasi Steady State theory' had suggested that time existed even before big bang and big bang is just a usual phenomenon on the universe.

Some people even suggests that "there was a big bang even before the original big bang and hence there was a universe before the present universe & that universe crunched(the cosmological term is BIG CRUNCH) and then expanded into our current universe & our present universe may once again undergo big crunch were time&space may end or reemerge as a new , young universe "

Relativity & Time travel

[video based edition for easy understanding of the complex]

To know this  better you must know more about special theory of relativity.Watch this video to know ......

So simply special theory of relativity suggests that time runs slower to a moving object than a stationary object. Also time runs slower to an object subjected to gravitational force.

There for if we travel at very high velocity or if we get subjected to high gravitational force, time runs slower to us than the normal universe so when we get free of the high gravitational force or high velocity we will have came years into the future  .More methods can be found on the provided video.

Also the special theory of relativity comes in action in case of everyday objects such as a magnet.
view this video to know how it works.

Representation of motion

How is motion represented ?
Motion is defined as the change in position of a body with respect to its surrounding.

Motion is classified as one dimensional ,two dimensional & three dimensional in the basis of number of reference points.

One dimensional motion only needs an axis[x,y or z] to be represented. For example,a freely falling body.
In two dimensional motion, it requires two axes to represent motion. For example, motion of objects moving in a plane.

In three dimensional motion, it requires three axes to represent motion , motion of objects through space. The motion of a roller coaster is it's example.

CARBON DATING

We know that plants uses carbon(in the form of carbon dioxide) to carry out photosynthesis. But they also absorbs a radio active form of carbon dioxide, which is continuously created in the earth's atmosphere due to the collision of cosmic rays with carbon dioxide molecules. When animals eat plants it enters in their bodies and cycles all over the food chain .The radio active carbon or radiocarbon stays on the plant or animal body, even when they are dead, but under go radioactive decay with time.By calculating the percentage of radio carbon in a piece of old wood or fragment of bone scientist can know the age of organic substances.

Spectrography.

How do we know what's in a star?

Humans have their own unique finger prints, like wise elements have their own unique spectrographic finger prints. This means that when an electromagnetic wave[for example, light] is absorbed by an element,it will emit a wave back with another spectrum.
Scientists now have the spectrum of almost all the elements & compounds, which when compared with the light spectrum of a star allows scientists to understand the composition of a distant star.

Wave particle - light

Is light a wave or particle?
This question is a little tricky.

This question is one that confused the greatest minds of modern physics& lead to discussions & debates between scientists which is going on even now.
Some scientists like Newton suggested that it was wave while others considered it as a particle.
Wave form of light is explained as the interaction of  electrical & magnetic waves & is hence known as an electromagnetic wave. The particle form of light is known as photon & is originally packets of wave energy.

It is now found that, the form at which light appears is relative to the observer. There for modern physics consider it as a
"WAVE-PARTICLE".

Psychology, Colours & marketing

Colours & human mind

Humans and some other apes are lucky enough to have multi colour vision. This has to deal with human evolution .Biologically our ancestors are pre-historic monkeys & they used to eat fruits. With black and white vision  they were unable to understand which fruit was ripe and which was not ,so our eyes evolved to have red cone cells to make us aware.                                                                                                         Plants also gained with this as, after this only mature fruits was eaten  by our ancestors and there for seeds were not wasted.
also view this video[it's interesting]

Now food industry is exploiting this biological mechanism by packing their products in red packets as it will make their consumers hungry.
You may have also noticed that operation theatres of hospitals and some equipments there, including a surgeon's mask are of green colour. This  is because green colour increases  concentration of surgeons & also it reduces the stress of patience.Yellow is the most 'happiest' colour, so most of our pencils are yellow .
