How astronomers measure interstellar distances ???

The first method for measuring distance to a star is using a parallax , i.e triangulation. It's a method in which the change in position of a celestial body caused by the motion of the earth with respect to an observer on earth along with a little trigonometry  is used to determine the distance .

Another method is to use standard candles .A standard candle is a class of astrophysical objects, such as supernovae or variable stars, which have known luminosity due to some characteristic quality possessed by the entire class of objects. Thus comparing the standard candles with other astronomical objects;we are able measure huge distances. To find out more on how spectrum of stars tell us about them click here.

Did man evolve from monkeys?????. !

Stephen Hawking had said that '' The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance,It is the illusion of knowledge''. What he meant is pretty clear. We may perceive that we are sure about something but you may not be.
Such illusions of knowledge is all over the society .This phenomenal illusion will drive us deep into the horrid black holes of ignorance. Many such illusions can be seen in cultures across the globe. Some of them are religious, but some of them are even scientific.
Religion tells that man was created by god. While many others  believe that man evolved from monkeys. But science tells that man(Homo sapiens) and monkeys evolved separately; but from a common ancestor. It is even more funnier that many of us still believes that each race is a different species. There is no biological basis to the notion of human races. All human are a single species. The very definition of a species tells us that a species is a group of individuals capable of interbreeding. There is no better evidence to prove that humans are one race .Still our genetic footprints can be traced back to Africa.
Several other scientific myths can be still found.Let us question them until there is no more questions to ask..............................................................................???????????????????????.

SCIENCE- The poetry of Reality.

The word 'science' came from the Latin word 'scientia' meaning knowledge. Science is a human made concept to prevent us from fooling ourselves. The ultimate aim of science is not to find a theory which explains everything (i think there is the need of an impossible aim to motivate a large community)but rather a collection of theories ; models .Basically scientific method includes TO QUESTION EVERYTHING and I think that's what caused scientific method to rise and grow within a small period of time.
But unfortunately we cannot find the ultimate truths with scientific method. We  humans are biological organisms and therefore we have limitations in finding the reality. Our reality is limited into the data we get from our sense organs. You may argue that we have advanced machines capable of giving a higher rate of detection than our own sense organs. But don't forget that your reality is ultimately bound to your brain .So science only enables us for a better understanding of our reality itself. Reality is different for different beings. For example a cat may be seeing the same tree you saw with different colour, shape etc .
A far complex organism (if it exists) will have a different reality .

But SCIENCE IS GREAT. IT IS BEYOND A FORM OF STUDY.IT'S A CULTURE ,IT'S A WAY FOR ALL TO THINK.I JUST POINTED THE FACT THAT SCIENCE HAS TO EVOLVE INTO SOME THING NOT BOUND BY SUBJECTIVE REALITY .

'This Place ' had made a great video on the working of science.

CIRCLE'S AREA

Circle is one the most fascinating shapes in mathematics. It is defined as 'a collection of points equidistant from a fixed point' in Euclidean geometry. It has many wonderful properties .For example it is considered as the largest known polygon [while considering each point of it as a side] and hence it's interior angle sum is infinite.

We must appreciate the Greeks for their creativity of comparing the area of a triangle with the area of a circle.Let me explain this;
We know that triangles are the basic shape in geometry. So the Greeks used the shape for finding the area of a circle .
The method they used are as follow,

  • For this, we can imagine circle as a collection of triangles; whose one vertex intersects with all others vertices's at the the centre of the circle.
  • now, we can imagine that the two sides formed from the vertexes of the formed triangles coincides .
  • We know that,
Area of a triangle = 1/2 base * height

In this case the height is equal to the radius of the circle and the sum of  lengths of bases is equal to the circumference of the circle .From this,
Sum of bases of the triangles = Circumference of circle =2
π
r

Height of the triangle = Radius of the circle = rArea of a triangle= 1/2 base * height
So,

Area of the circle = Sum of areas of all triangles = 1/2 sum of all the bases  * height
=1/2 * circumference * radius
=1/2*2
πr*r=
π
r
2

It's amazing to know how creative the Greeks were .........WONDERFUL...

The below video finds the area of a circle using the area of a rectangle ..
